Schedule of Computer Classes: Fall 2013

Many Computer Lab sessions – except where noted - are taught presuming attendees’ ability to type on a computer keyboard; use either a laptop touchpad or a mouse; and enter an address in the address bar of a browser. Those who do not have these skills are welcome to sign up for our sessions; however, they may find they are unable to fully participate.

Computer Basics
An introduction to using a laptop computer, which will cover the following topics:  What’s on a computer keyboard; how to use the mouse and touchpad; what is a browser; how to visit a website.(Taught by Katherine) Thursday, October 3, 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.

Word Basics
Creating a simple document using Word 2007. (Taught by Jeanne)

Library Catalog Basics
An introduction to searching the CWMARS online catalog; accessing your patron account; submitting hold requests; setting your reading history. Prerequisite: Those who register for this session must have a current CWMARS card in good standing and should bring the card to the class. (Taught by Katherine)

QuickBooks: A general introduction
Some basic principles of accounting; how accounting works behind the scene in QuickBooks; the QuickBooks interface; entering transactions. (Taught by Alex and Madeline)Thursday, November 7, 9:30 -10:30 a.m.

QuickBooks: An introduction to the Sales Process
Setting up customer records; recording sales receipts; recording customer invoices and payments; entering bank deposits. (Taught by Alex and Madeline)

QuickBooks: An introduction to Tracking Revenue
Processing customer returns and credits; writing off  bad debts; creating customer statements; creating sales reports; collecting sales tax. (Taught by Alex and Madeline) Thursday, November 21, 9:30 -10:30 a.m.

*Funds for the purchase of QuickBooks software is from an LSTA grant, a federal source of library funding, administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
