Streetscape Phase 4 Update - week of Aug. 29 - Sept. 2

Warner Brothers, the paving subcontractor, is scheduled to pave a shim course in the milled road area throughout the day on Monday, Aug. 29.  There will be disruptions to traffic as both directions will be down to one lane.

Lanes will be shifted as work progresses. There will be no parking in the construction zone from 12 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday.

Maplewood Avenue will be closed on Monday morning from the Maplewood driveway of 510 North St. to the intersection with North Street.  In the afternoon on Monday Linden Street will be closed from the back of Rite Aid to the intersection with North Street.

Streetscape contractor Maxymillian will begin staging for paving operations (setting up traffic controls) early Monday morning around 4:30 a.m. Paving operations are scheduled to begin at 6 a.m.  They will be pulling temporary blacktop ramps at driveways.

Maxymillian will continue grading for sidewalks from A-Mart to Lipton Mart (Mobil).  Work will continue on restoring planters behind the sidewalk restoration from A-Mart to Lipton Mart.

Maxymillian will also begin work on excavating the new islands on North Street as well as installing conduit for up-lighting in the islands (this work will start on the north end of the construction zone and work south).

The curbing and sidewalk subcontractor, Varandas Construction, will continue sidewalk restoration from A-Mart to Lipton Mart (Mobil).  Curbing will also begin being installed for the islands on North Street.  Parking and pedestrian traffic may be disrupted by this work.

Subcontractor, Lapinski Electric, will continue work on the traffic intersections and wiring components.  They should begin installing traffic signal heads on the mast arms.  There may be disruptions to traffic at the two signalized intersections (North and Melville/Union and North and Maplewood/Linden) during this work.

Eversource contractor, Burke Electric, will be on site Monday morning to begin work on replacing the top of a vault on the north corner of Bradford Street and North Street (near Methuselah).  This area will be disturbed for some time as extensive work needs to be done on the vault.  The sidewalk will be closed in this area and excavation will be protected with barriers and fencing.

Pedestrian traffic will be guided by pedestrian guardrails and drums.

Vehicular traffic may be down to one lane in both directions.  Parking in some areas will be affected by this work.  Vehicles will be guided with signs, cones, and drums allowing traffic to travel safely in the downtown area.
