Pittsfield Youth Commission Seeking New Members to Fill Open Positions
The Pittsfield Youth Commission has opened two questionnaires for adults and youth interested in joining the PYC.
The mission of the Pittsfield Youth Commission is to work collaboratively with the community as a unified official body in order to empower and represent the youth of Pittsfield.
This commission is a formal government body that serves an important role within the city for both the City Council and the youth of Pittsfield. The City Council can refer to the Youth Commission for any youth related event, issue or idea. For example, the Youth Commission was consulted when the skate park first came into existence. Young people within the City can also approach the Commission about topics relating to them and improvements that could be made for the youth of Pittsfield. The PYC is made up of 21 members that include both youth (between the ages of 14-18) and adult participants living in Pittsfield. The Pittsfield Youth Commission is made up of members appointed by the Mayor.
The Youth Commission holds one large monthly meeting (Thursday, 6pm) as well as smaller sub-committee meetings each month and additional events. Attendance and participation in the PYC is important and those interested in applying must consider the time commitment involved in serving on a government body.
The Pittsfield Youth Commission must represent a diverse group of interests and views. All are encouraged to apply! Adults and youth interested in joining the Pittsfield Youth Commission should complete the Survey Monkey questionnaire.
Paper copies of the questionnaire can be picked up in the Mayor’s Office in City Hall, 70 Allen Street. Questionnaires must be completed by July 25, 2015.
