Final Week of City Water Flushing

The Department of Public Utilities of the City of Pittsfield announces that the annual flushing of the City water system will be completed next week.  Water main flushing may be expected to affect the following areas during the week of Monday, June 29, 2015 through Thursday, July 2, 2015.

The areas of the Southwest, including South Street to Berkshire Life, Crofut Street, Barker Road, South Mountain Road, Tamarack Road and West Housatonic Street.

Water mains throughout the City will be flushed through hydrants to remove accumulations of pipeline corrosion products.  Mains will be flushed between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Although flushing may cause localized dirty water and reduced service pressure conditions in and around the immediate area of flushing, appropriate measures will be taken to ensure that proper levels of treatment and disinfection are maintained in the system at all times.  Should dirty water be experienced, customers may wish to let the water run for a short period to clear prior to use.  Should dirty water or low pressure conditions persist, please contact the Water Department at 499-9339.

The Department regrets any inconvenience the flushing program may cause.  Flushing is an important operating procedure that contributes significantly to the maintenance of the water quality in the water distribution system.
