In an effort to prevent the spread of zebra mussels into city lakes, the City of Pittsfield would like to remind the boating public that state certification of boat decontamination will again be required this season.
All boaters launching from any public access boat ramp in Pittsfield, and across Berkshire County, will be required to sign, date, and display the self-certification form prior to launching, provided that they have met the criteria for decontamination. If the criteria cannot be met, it is unlawful to launch the boat until it is properly decontaminated.
Per Massachusetts regulations, failure to self-certify is a violation of 320 CMR 2.00, which is subject to a fine and penalties, including towing of your vehicle and trailer. Self certification forms can be found at the kiosk displays at the state boat ramps in Pittsfield. For more information, please contact (413) 499-9344.
