Director of Hartford Food System to present March 25th

The Healthy Pittsfield Partnership will host Martha Page, Director of the Hartford Food System, for a presentation about their programs on Wednesday March 25th . The meeting will be held at the Rice Silk Mill Apartments community room, 55 Spring Street Pittsfield, 8:30 – 10:00. It is open to the public and the partnership encourages local farmers, food retailers, food assistance organizations, elected officials, educators and health advocates from Berkshire County to attend.

Founded in 1978, Hartford Food System (HFS) is dedicated to finding long-term solutions for access to affordable and healthy food in the city of Hartford. Among cities with more than 100,000 people, Hartford has one of the lowest median household income levels in the nation and almost 40% of Hartford families with children are below poverty level, making Hartford one of the poorest cities for children in the country. The lack of access to nutritionally adequate food, or food insecurity, is a factor in hunger and high rates of diet related diseases among individuals living in urban regions.
