The City of Pittsfield’s 2019 Leadership Academy, an internal professional development program, developed the “Did You Know” campaign to help inform and remind city residents of beneficial information and resources. The eight-month long program, which is in its second year, culminated at the end of September. It was led by Police Chief Michael Wynn and included a cohort of employees from City Hall, and the police and school departments. The city’s Leadership Academy is loosely based on a similar program at the Gainesville Police Department in Gainesville, Fla. Program participants attended monthly, daylong class sessions, which included presentations and discussions from thought leaders in the community. Each session consisted of a reading assignment review, a “Closing the Gap” department capabilities briefing and a leadership challenge case-study review.
