Q: How many bills will I receive each year?
A: Bills are issued on a quarterly basis: February, May, August and November.
Q: Why is my metered water bill so high?
A: Water bills can vary in amount from one quarter to another due to various reasons including (but not limited to):
- Seasonal Use (i.e. lawn sprinkling, pool filling...etc.).
Q: How do I get a final water reading?
A: Contact the Department of Public Utilities at (413) 499-9330 to request a final reading.
Q: Why do I have an interest charge on my bill?
A: Interest accrues at a rate of 8% per annum from the due date of the bill to the date of the payment.
Q: What is a balance forward?
A: A balance forward appears when the previous bill(s) or late fee(s) remain unpaid. The amount is equal to the outstanding principal and interest.
Q: I recently purchased this property, and received a water bill with consumption dates prior to purchase, what should I do?
A: In a case such as this you should first refer to your settlement documents. In most cases the "buyer" will receive a credit for water/sewer not yet billed. If you believe this is not the case, please contact your closing attorney.
