Earlier this month, the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery in Washington, D.C. unveiled the official presidential portraits of former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.
Here in the Berkshires, visitors to the Berkshire Athenaeum can now view replicas of the portraits starting today. The images will be on display on the main floor.
“This is about access for us,” said Library Director Alex Reczkowski. “Many members of our community couldn’t make it to the National Portrait Gallery or wait two hours in line, so we’re making it available.”
The replica images were provided and permitted by the Smithsonian. The recreation was made possible thanks to a recent donation of a large-format printer by Interprint. Reczkowski said the library will use the printer for future projects such as READ posters.
The presidential portraits will be on display through March. For more information, please call the library at 413-499-9480.
