Why: In the past, the City of Pittsfield has had a Youth Commission. This commission is a formal committee that serves an important role within the City for both the City Council and the youth of Pittsfield. The City Council can refer any youth related event, issue or idea to the Youth Commission. For example, the Youth Commission was consulted during the development of the original skate park. Young people within the City can also approach the Commission about topics relating to their life and improvements that could be made for the youth population in Pittsfield.
The goal of the Youth Commission is to bring the thoughts of youth in Pittsfield to light and make their voices heard. The Commission will act as a hub for the many, already established, youth organizations in Pittsfield. Individual young people, citizens of Pittsfield, the school department, business owners, large youth organizations and any others will all be welcome to come and share their concerns, thoughts and ideas at each meeting.
Mayor Bianchi will be appointing up to twenty-one people, both young adults (between the ages of 14 to 18) and adults, to serve on the Youth Commission. Young-adults, and adults, from across the City of Pittsfield are invited to apply.
