The City of Pittsfield’s annual Veterans Day Parade will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11.
For those participating, line-up will take place from 9-9:45 a.m. on Fenn, Pearl and Allen streets and will leave from City Hall on Fenn Street at 10 a.m. The group will proceed to North Street, and head south to the Veterans’ Memorial. The parade will feature the Berkshire Veterans Coalition, members of the Pittsfield City Council, high school marching bands, Boy and Girl Scout troops, color guards, honor guards, and a host of volunteers. Please note that in case of inclement weather, the exercises will be held at The American Legion/VFW Headquarters, 41 Wendell Ave, Pittsfield. “Veterans Day is an opportunity for us to remember the service of our veterans, and lets us renew our promise to fulfill our obligations to our veterans and their families who have sacrificed so much so that we can live free,” said Jim Clark, the city’s Director of Veteran Services.
A ceremony will follow at 10:45 a.m. with Mayor Linda Tyer providing opening remarks, followed by keynote speaker Jim Clark, Director of Veterans Services. Also, the Berkshire Veterans Coalition’s 2016 Veteran of the Year will be announced during the ceremony.
The event will close with a volley by Dalton American Legion, Post 155 Honor Guard, and Taps and the National Anthem by the Pittsfield High School Band.
Following the ceremony, a light reception for veterans and their family members will be held noon to 3:30 p.m. at the VA’s Community Outpatient Clinic on Eagle Street in Pittsfield.
Veterans who are not enrolled for VA Health Care will be able to process enrollment applications at the reception. Free haircuts will also be offered to male and female veterans, courtesy of Tami and Danielle from Cost Cutters of Malden, Mass. In addition, VA Health Care eligible veterans, who have not yet received their flu shots this year, may do so at the event.
