In recognition of Memorial Day, the Berkshire Veterans Coalition will host the 2016 Memorial Day Parade and ceremony on Monday, May 30.
Lineup for the parade will be 8-8:45 a.m. on Fenn, Pearl, and Allen streets, and will be depart from the City Hall at 9 a.m. The parade will proceed to North Street, turning right and heading north, taking a left on Wahconah Street to the Pittsfield Cemetery. Please note that in case of inclement weather, the exercises will be held at Morningside Community School, 100 Burbank St. Stay tuned to local radio stations for information pertaining to weather-related updates.
The ceremony is scheduled to begin approximately at 10 a.m. Director of Veteran Services: James H. Clark will provide opening remarks, and the keynote address will be delivered by Mayor Linda M. Tyer.
In addition to the Berkshire Veterans Coalition, the day’s events will include a host of volunteers, high school marching bands, scout troops, Pittsfield Public School students and families, color guards, honor guards, and members of the City Council will be in attendance.
Poppies will be placed in the urn for each veterans name read by all Berkshire Veterans Coalition Commanders or their representatives. Father Peter Gregory will read the names of veterans who have passed from 2015-2016.
Volley will by the Vietnam Veterans of America James E. Callahan Berkshire Chapter 65; Taps by: Pittsfield High School Band; and the National Anthem sung by the Pittsfield High School Band.
