At the start of the week of April 18, Streetscape contractor, Maxymillian, will begin sidewalk excavation and conduit work between Union and Bradford streets. Construction work will start at 7 a.m.
Pedestrian traffic will be guided along the storefronts utilizing a construction guardrail safety system and gravel sidewalks. Parking and vehicle traffic may be affected by this work. Southbound traffic will be limited to one lane during the day.
A second crew from Maxymillian will be forming up and installing new granite seat walls just north of Hotel on North. The crew will also begin work installing a load center in front of the YMCA so that new lighting can be utilized once poles are set. Minimal disruptions to pedestrian and vehicular traffic will be caused by this work.
The curbing and sidewalk subcontractor, Varandas Construction, will finish curbing from Columbus Avenue to Union Street and begin the installation of new concrete walks from Columbus Avenue to Summer Street. Access to storefronts will be maintained but temporary ramps may be put into use when concrete is poured along the doorways. Parking will be affected by this work.
Berkshire Gas Company and JS Rae will begin installing a new gas main on the eastbound side of North Street, starting at Lipton Mobil (580 North St.) and working southerly in the northbound lanes. Vehicular traffic will be reduced to one lane on the northbound side in this area.
Vehicular traffic will be guided with signs, cones, and drums allowing traffic to travel safely in the downtown area.
