First Auto Excise Tax Bills for 2016 Due March 31
The first mailing of 2016 Automobile Excise Tax bills were mailed out on March 1 and will be due Thursday, March 31.
All payment must be received in the Collector’s Office by March 31 otherwise a 12 percent interest will be assessed to the bill along with a $15 demand. This demand must be paid within the 14 days in order to avoid the bill being turned over to the city’s Deputy Collector, Kelley & Ryan Associates, Inc. for additional fees and charges. Those who do not pay the Deputy Collector will have their names submitted to the Registry of Motor Vehicles for non-renewal of license and registration with an additional fee.
The assessment is based on a $25 per $1,000 dollar valuation.
Those who have received a bill for vehicles that they have sold, traded or junked should apply with their bills, plate cancellation receipt and to whom the vehicle was sold, traded or given to as well as their
new registration to the Board of Assessors. Also taxpayers who have moved out of state will need their Massachusetts plate cancellation receipt and a copy of their out-of-state registration in order to apply to the Board of Assessors for an adjustment.
Payment can be made the following ways: online at the City of Pittsfield website using a credit card or checking account and via phone at 1.877.565.1167. Please note online and telephone payments will incur a small fee.
By mail, please make sure to include your payment coupon along with the check in the self-addressed envelope that the city has provided for mailing the payment.
