Mayor Bianchi to Commemorate National Get Outdoors Day

Mayor Daniel Bianchi will officially commemorate the city's first participation in the National Get Outdoors Day initiative at a press conference this Saturday, June 8, at 12:30pm at the historic Springside House in Springside Park.

Mayor Bianchi's address will be followed by remarks from Ward 6 City Councilor John Krol; Parks, Open Space, and Natural Resources Program Manager James McGrath; and Vincent J. Hebert Arboretum Board President Elizabeth Kulas.

The press conference will take place amidst the festivities staged throughout the park for Get Outdoors at Springside, which includes over 25 outdoor activities plus ten musical performance acts on multiple stages throughout the day from 10am-7pm.

Following these remarks, officials will enter the house to tour a special one time only exhibit of Pittsfield parks history featuring materials from the city's own archives.  Media are welcome to attend this guided walk through by James McGrath, and the exhibit is open to the public from 11am-5pm.

Get Outdoors at Springside is a new collaborative effort by the City of Pittsfield with the Vincent J. Hebert Arboretum with support from more than 20 sponsors and participating organizations for National Get Outdoors Day. NGO Day is an initiative of the USDA Forest Service and the American Recreational Council. Prime goals of the day are reaching first-time visitors to public lands and reconnecting our youth to the great outdoors.
