RSVP Celebrates 2015 Volunteer Recognition

More than 100 RSVP volunteers will be honored at the 2015 RSVP Volunteer Recognition Luncheon which will be held Friday, Oct. 2 at the Country Club of Pittsfield.

Special guests will include Mayor Daniel Bianchi and Senator Benjamin Downing. The private luncheon is free for RSVP volunteers who have accumulated at least 40 hours of service in 2014; the fee is $16 for volunteers with less hours.

RSVP Director Cheryl Whalen commended the volunteers for their invaluable contributions to the Berkshires. “RSVP volunteers consistently demonstrate an unyielding energy in their many tasks including educating and reading to our children; beautifying the community with trees and flowers; serving meals; providing transportation to cancer patients; and working at community agencies, hospitals, and libraries,” Whalen said. “I thank them for their commitment to service wherever and whenever needed.”

Among this year’s recognitions, Robert Bergendahl, who has been with RSVP since 2008, will be honored as the 2015 Volunteer of the Year for his many hours of dedicated service – 456 hours in 2014 and a total of 2,649 hours to date – in the community. Bergendahl volunteers at Barrington Stage Company, Downtown Inc., Habitat for Humanity, and Shakespeare & Company.

Additionally, the Country Club of Pittsfield was selected as the recipient of the 2015 Community Business Partner Award for its outstanding service and quality.

RSVP of Berkshire County is sponsored locally by the city of Pittsfield and receives support from the Corporation for National Service.  RSVP includes more than a half million seniors in community service projects nationwide.
