Genealogy Classes for Beginners Available at Berkshire Athenaeum

The Berkshire Athenaeum has released its fall lineup of genealogy classes targeted to those looking to know more about the field.

The workshop will be led by genealogy enthusiasts Janet Rogge and Angela Rifkin, along with Vera Silva. Attendance at all three sessions is recommended to get the most out of the classes, says Ann-Marie Harris, who works in the library’s Local History & Genealogy department.  Participants are welcome to bring their own laptop or use a computer at the library.

The schedule includes:

Sept. 24:

  • 10 a.m. – noon: Organizing your records and planning your research/Introduction to the Census
  • 1-3 p.m.: Repeat of morning session

Oct. 1:

  • 10 a.m. – noon: Using Vital Records/Beginning Immigration Research
  • 1-3:  Repeat of morning session

Oct. 8:

  • 10 a.m.- noon: Introduction to Ancestry.com
  • 1-3 p.m.: Repeat of morning session
