BHDC Seeking Family Mentors

Berkshire Housing Development Corporation (BHDC) of Pittsfield MA in partnership with Berkshire County Regional Housing Authority (BCRHA) is seeking volunteers for a new family mentoring program being launched. Ida M. Patella has been hired to facilitate this new program as the Program Coordinator/ Lead Trainer.

The goal of the Family Promise Mentoring Program is to provide advocacy to families that are in need of support and guidance to become more self- reliant. Families often face enormous challenges in maintaining stable housing, managing budgets on limited resources and connecting to community resources. Many families struggle with a lack of support on an ongoing basis, which can make it difficult to identify goals and follow thru with meeting these goals.

This program is actively recruiting volunteers to become mentors to a family which could be a 1 or 2 parent household with 1 child or children. The Mentor would receive training and ongoing support to fulfill this role with a willing family. BHDC is asking for a year commitment of 1-2 hours weekly.

An informational meeting is scheduled for June 16th at 6:00 PM in the second floor meeting room of the Berkshire Athenaeum on 1 Wendell Avenue in Pittsfield, MA. 01201. For more details please contact Ida M. Patella, Family Mentor Coordinator at (413) 344-4803.
