Mayor Daniel L. Bianchi is pleased to announce the appointment of Douglas C. Clark as Community Development Director. The position has been unfilled since the departure of Deanna L. Ruffer, who left for a similar position in Chatham last September. The appointment will be put before the City Council at their May 14th meeting.
Mr. Clark comes to this position from Clark Engineering & Surveying, P.C. in New Lebanon, N.Y., which he founded with his wife Ann in 1986. Clark is a licensed professional engineer in Massachusetts and New York and a LEED (leadership in energy and environmental design) accredited professional. Ann L. Clark, a professional engineer and president of the Clark Engineering, will continue to lead the firm.
Doug has worked with municipalities for over 35 years, helping them with infrastructure projects, planning, and financing, including the preparation of grant and subsidized loan applications. He currently serves as Deputy Supervisor for the Town of New Lebanon, where he has been instrumental in a number of town-wide initiatives.
Asked why the shift in career, Mr. Clark states that he felt the time was right for this new challenge and opportunity to put his Master of Science degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Ecological Economics, Values and Policy to work. Mr. Clark holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Clarkson University.
Most importantly, Clark has been impressed with the progress Pittsfield has made in the last several years and he is excited about the opportunity to use his experience and skill set to help continue these efforts.
