Mass DOT Construction Contract Awarded to Pittsfield

Mayor Bianchi is pleased to release the news that the Massachusetts Department of Transportation has announced a construction contract for the replacement of the bridge carrying Woodlawn Avenue over the CSX railroad tracks has been made.  D.O.T. and Senator Ben Downing informed the Mayor of the good news on Friday, December 4th.  Also included in the construction contract is the reconstruction of the intersection of Woodlawn Avenue and Kellogg Street.

Bianchi stated, “The project will improve Pittsfield infrastructure. The bridge construction will take place in one stage from demolition to reconstruction; therefore, residents will not be affected by a multistage project.”

The Woodlawn Avenue bridge construction contract includes demolition, removal and disposal of materials, and construction of a new single span structure.  The new structure includes 4 prefabricated Bridge Units consisting of 8 steel plate girders with an 8” full depth deck slab with a superpave wearing surface supported on precast abutments and cast-in-place footings.

The construction contract for the intersection of Woodlawn Avenue and Kellogg Street will include, but not limited to, pavement milling; installing granite curb and edging; paving; constructing cement concrete sidewalks, driveways and access ramps; removing and disposing guardrail; constructing drainage structures; cleaning catch basins; relocating water main, furnishing and installing street lighting on Woodlawn Avenue.

Construction will begin next spring.
