City Water Transmission Main Break

The City of Pittsfield’s  Department of Public Utilities is currently responding to a water main break on the City’s water transmission main into the City from the Cleveland Water Treatment Plant.  The break is located on Housatonic Street in Dalton, near LP Adams.  The City is in the process of shutting down the main so it can be excavated and repaired.  Repairing the main is a high priority since this transmission main provides about two-thirds of the City’s water.

Customers are requested to immediately curtail their water use to the maximum extent possible.  Some customers may experience sporadic low water pressure .  Some may possibly experience complete interruption.  This work may also cause sporadic localized dirty water.  The City’s second water treatment plant is continuing to supply water into the distribution system.  It is expected that the majority of the city will experience no interruption.

The Department regrets any inconvenience while we complete this repair.
