Patrick Administration to hold 'Summer Solstice Solar Tour' to Highlight Partnerships in Converting Landfills into Solar Farms

On Friday, June 20, 2014 – one of the longest days of the year – Patrick Administration environmental and energy officials will embark on a “Summer Solstice Solar Tour” stretching from Chatham on Cape Cod to Pittsfield in the Berkshires to highlight the Commonwealth’s local partnerships that convert environmental liabilities into solar farms and renewable energy facilities.

Mayor Bianchi is pleased to inform everyone that, “The Solar Tour will culminate with a special sunset event right here in Pittsfield.  The tour, which will end in Pittsfield, will come to the Wastewater Treatment Plant [901 Holmes Rd.] to view the solar array. I am proud that, in Pittsfield, we are able to provide innovative energy options. I am also pleased that Governor Patrick chose Pittsfield as the location for the last, sunset stop.”

Everyone is welcome to come at 4:45 to welcome Commissioner Cash, and encouraged to attend the Wastewater Treatment Plant at 8:15 to celebrate the last sunset before the summer solstice on June 20th.

The Solar Tour will start with the sunrise at 5:07 a.m. in Chatham, followed by solar events and tours in Barnstable, Brockton/Pembroke, Worcester, Easthampton and ending in Pittsfield with the sun setting. The Summer Solstice officially occurs at 6:38 a.m. on Saturday.
