PITTSFIELD MAYOR DAN BIANCHI NOMINATES LOCAL BUSINESS OWNER AND COMMUNITY LEADER MARY MCGINNIS FOR POSITION IN MAYOR'S OFFICE
(Pittsfield, Mass.) Pittsfield Mayor Daniel Bianchi today announced his choice for Director of Administrative Services, a position previously held by Donna Mattoon. Mayor Bianchi is nominating local business owner and community leader Mary McGinnis to the position, which is located in the Office of the Mayor and includes serving as the city’s public information officer and coordinating and leading a variety of special initiatives.
“I am very impressed with Mary’s commitment to and vision for Pittsfield, and with her years of volunteer service to makes the Berkshires a better place,” noted Mayor Bianchi. “She knows both the challenges and the potential we have here in Pittsfield, and is dedicated to making our city function well, be attractive to investment, and be a great place to live.”
Ms. McGinnis was raised in Pittsfield, where she graduated from St. Joseph’s High School and the Pittsfield Public Vocational School of Practical Nursing. She has worked at the Berkshire Medical Center for 34 years, most recently in the Quality Management Dept. Patient Safety Division. She just finished a 3 month “Workplace Campaign Executive” position with the Berkshire United Way on behalf of Berkshire Health Systems.
Ms. McGinnis is also an independent businesswoman - the owner of Gallery 25 and Mary’s Carrot Cake - and has an extraordinary record of volunteer service and leadership. She is the Chair of the nationally recognized First Fridays Artswalk in Pittsfield's Upstreet Cultural District, and serves on the City of Pittsfield’s Cultural Development Board and on the Board of Directors for Downtown Pittsfield Inc. She taught youth racquetball for 24 years at the Pittsfield YMCA, and also served as the Vice President of the Women’s Club. Ms. McGinnis has been honored with awards for her excellent work from the Berkshire Visitors Bureau, Berkshire Health Systems, Lee Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Pittsfield Inc., and others.
She lived in Lee for 17 years, where she served as the President of the Lee Chamber of Commerce for 4 terms and as the Chairwoman of Lee Founders Weekend for 13 years. She and her husband Kevin McGinnis moved back to Pittsfield several years ago, inspired by the city’s creative revitalization and determined to help make a difference in her hometown.
Ms. McGinnis noted, “I am thrilled by this opportunity to serve the community I love and know so well, and I look forward to working closely with Mayor Bianchi and everyone at City Hall and throughout our beautiful city.”
Ms. McGinnis’ appointment will be voted on by the Pittsfield City Council at the April 23rd City Council meeting.
