Artswalk Highlights:

2 Galleries and 2 Exhibits at The Whitney Center for the Arts
42 Wendell Avenue, Pittsfield, MA.

Gallery W @the Whit will feature a group exhibition in a variety of mediums as part of a larger city wide initiative called “Art + Industry.” Co-curated by Gallery W @the Whit chief curator Nayana Glazier and guest curator Leo Mazzeo, the show will feature regional and national artists brought together in an exhibit that will calendar wise span the transition from spring to summer and visually tie the worlds of fine art and industry in a harmonic blend that will surely engage and build delight in the viewer. Artists showing work include Sara Farrell Okamura, Hans Heuberger, David Ricci, Michael Holhut, Christopher Woodman, Jeff Gettis, Jaye Fox, and Nikki Smith.

The Colt Gallery @the Whit will feature Monterey, MA pastelist/oil painter/watercolorist Joe Baker for the month of June. "In Our World" will feature new works in both oils and pastels which are inspired by colors in our world - how they work together to set a mood, make a statement, and affect us the viewer.  “The subject matter is sometimes important, but always is secondary to the color interactions.” To see more of Joe Baker’s work, please visit

Group Show at Bagels Too

For the month of June, The Art Gallery at Bagels Too will be celebrating this lovely spring-into-summer season with appropriate work by Middlefield painter Judy Artioli, painter Karen Carmean of West Stockbridge and Cambridge, watercolorist Patrice Farrell of Stockbridge, West Stockbridge painter Diana Felber, Berkshire photographer Susan Geller, Sandisfield artist Isabeth Hardy, and West Stockbridge and Cambridge photographer Doane Perry.
 
Susan Gordon, owner of Bagels Too, will present a classic wine and cheese reception with extras and, of course, bagels.
 
The Art Gallery at Bagels Too has been showing terrific local art since the decorated sheep filled Pittsfield's streets in 2004. They’ve presented over 65 solo and group painting, drawing, print, photograph, fiber and fabric art, collage, mixed media and sculpture exhibits of Berkshire artists, from representational to surreal to mystical to abstract.

Scott Barrow's show at the Lichtenstein Gallery explores the unexpected beauty and drama of Pittsfield and the Berkshires’ industrial heritage.  His photographs celebrate the companies and the workers that make "Made in the Berkshires" a label to be proud of. Artswalk Second Anniversary Party at Downtown Pittsfield, Inc.
33 Dunham Mall, Pittsfield, MA.

In addition to hosting the Second Anniversary Party for First Fridays Artswalk from 5 to 8 pm, Downtown Pittsfield, Inc. will feature two artists. Michelle Sylvester will display her pastels on paper- landscapes and everyday objects captured in colorful layers of pastel. Deirdre McKenna will display her Fabric Monoprints. Monoprinting and sewing create layers of color, texture and rhythm on fabric.

Anne Pasko at Steven Valenti’s Clothing for Men

“Hand Colored Photographs” presented by Hildy Pincus Kronen will be on display for the month of June. For the month of June, the Brothership Building will display watercolors depicting scenes in the Berkshires by Sally Tiska Rice. Sally uses spontaneity to compose artwork as well as many beautiful commission art pieces for customers throughout the country. NU Arts Studios and Gallery

NUarts Studios and Galleries will have open studios during the June Artswalk.
NUarts Studios is the largest gathering of artists working under the same roof in the Berkshires. Debra Deres at Baba Louie’s Pizza
34 Depot Street, Pittsfield, MA

Baba Louie's will display watercolors by Debra Deres for the month of June. Baba Louie's will host an opening reception starting at 4pm during Artswalk. Deb’s love of nature is demonstrated in her work through the grand vistas of her landscapes to the delicate features of her floral presentations in both her watercolors and oils.  Her sense of humor is exhibited through her animal portraits.  New and recent explorations into other water media and collage techniques have added a new dimension to the artist’s work and are what she calls her “experimental excursions in techniques and media to make me grow as an artist”.
 
Sean McCusker at DEIDRE’S Special Day

We are pleased to welcome DEIDRE’S Special Day to First Fridays Artswalk!
Sean McCusker will be showing his colorful surreal landscape pastels in an exhibit entitled “Pastel Stories” at DEIDRE’S, 2 South Street across from Park Square. “Pastel Stories” will be on display from June 6th to June 28th; with a reception held during Artswalk from 5 to 8 pm.
Sean McCusker has been creating surreal landscapes inspired by the hilly Berkshires for the past 10 years.  His work has been shown at galleries and storefronts across Berkshire County and he has been an active member of the arts community in Pittsfield offering his experience to the Artscape Committee, First Fridays Artswalk and other cultural organizations.  This show will be focusing on pastel drawings from his long running Journey series involving the journey of a lone figure searching for the adventures that lie beyond the next hill.
Sean's abstract compositions glow with an intense color and contrast that is built up from many layers of pastel. They center around an abstract figure, sometimes in a group but most often alone, set against a vast empty space. These figures brim over with warmth, along with a deep yearning for that which is just over the horizon in their richly colorful world. Examples of his work can be found at

Acrylic Paintings at Berkshire Medical Center

Mike Mongue will display his acrylic paintings for the month of June. Berkshire Medical Center will host a reception for the artist from 3pm to 5pm on June 6th in the Main Lobby of BMC.


Student Works at the Berkshire Community College Intermodal Gallery
1 Columbus Avenue, Pittsfield, MA.

BCC’s Intermodal Gallery will feature current students’ art work for the month of June. The Show will focus on the works created in the Drawing Two Course offered spring semester of 2014. Each student developed their individual series of drawing based on their own themes and mediums. An opening reception will be held from 5-8 pm during Artswalk.
