City Seeks Public Comments on Draft Annual Action Plan

Mayor Bianchi announces that  on Thursday, April 10, 2014, the City’s Department of Community Development will release the draft Consolidated Annual Action Plan outlining how federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds will be used to address housing and community development needs for the 2015 fiscal year.  The City of Pittsfield’s Department of Community Development will hold a hearing April 29, 2014 on its Community Development Block Grant program budget and draft 2015 Consolidated Annual Action Plan.  The public hearing will be held in City Council Chambers on the second floor of City Hall at 7:00 p.m.

Held by the City Council’s subcommittee on Community and Economic Development, the hearing is part of a 30-day public review process that is required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and will provide an opportunity for public review and comment on the draft plan for the 2015 fiscal year.  Through what HUD terms an entitlement grant, HUD provides the City with Community Development Block Grant funding on an annual basis.

The draft 2015 Consolidated Annual Action Plan’s proposed $1.558 million budget contains $1.166 million in new CDBG funds.  The 30-day public review and comment period runs from Thursday, April 10, 2014 until 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2014.  The final 2015 Consolidated Annual Action Plan will be submitted to HUD after the conclusion of the 30-day public comment period.

The City’s Department of Community Development has proposed using CDBG money during the upcoming 2015 fiscal year for projects that include public facilities, removal of architectural barriers, public services, debt service payments, housing rehabilitation, economic development, clearance, planning activities, and administrative costs.

Copies of the draft Consolidated Annual Action Plan will be available for public review at the City’s Department of Community Development at City Hall.  A copy of the draft document will also be posted to the City’s website at www.cityofpittsfield.org.  If residents are unable to attend the public hearing, they can submit their comments, written or verbally, to the Pittsfield Department of Community Development at any time during the 30-day comment period.  The Department of Community Development is located at: City Hall, 70 Allen Street, Room 205, Pittsfield, MA, (413) 499-9368 or TTY (413) 499-9340.  Persons with special needs should contact the Pittsfield Department of Community Development prior to the public hearing and every effort will be made to accommodate their requests.
