Instrument Presentation by Laborer's Local 473 at Herberg Middle School

The Domenic A. Izzi Jr. Music Foundation supported in part by the Laborer’s International Union of North America, Local 473, has chosen 7 students from Herberg and Reid Middle Schools to receive musical instruments. The IZZI Foundation will be coming to Pittsfield on Thursday, April 3rd, at 10:30am at Herberg Middle School at 501 Pomeroy Ave.  At that time, the Foundation will be presenting the instruments to the students. Mayor Dan Bianchi will be there to congratulate the recipients. “I want to thank the Foundation and Local Laborer’s 473 for their donation and involvement in our schools” stated the mayor. The Local 473 Laborers Union Business Manager, Mike Filpi will present the awards, The union is a donor for the Foundation.

The Domenic Izzi Jr. Foundation for Young and Aspiring Musicians was set up to provide financial assistance for children to purchase musical instruments. The Foundations’ Mission Statement states that “music is an essential part of life, which allows students to use their ability to develop self-esteem, creativity, and self-discipline, to achieve their highest potential and make a positive impact in their lives. ”Domenic Izzi Jr. was an accomplished graphic artist, photographer, editor, as well as a musician. He was tragically killed in a car accident on March 18th, 2012 in Providence RI.

Candidates selected to be considered for these awards must have good grades and a good attendance record. A letter of consideration must be provided by the principle of their respective school, guidance counselor and music teacher, as well as an essay from the student stating why he or she should be considered.

The Foundation also considers applications from organizations promoting career exploration and educational enhancement through the arts. The Foundation raises funds by donations and local fundraising events. Instruments may also be donated to the foundation for refurbishing and presented to students in lieu of financial support.
