First Auto Excise Tax Bills For 2014 Are Mailed

The first mailing of 2014 Automobile Excise Tax bills were mailed out on March 3, 2014 and are due on April 4, 2014.

All payment must be received in the Collector’s office by April 4th, 2014 otherwise a 12% interest will be assessed to the bill along with a$ 15.00 demand.  This demand must be paid within the fourteen days in order to avoid the bill being turned over to our Deputy Collector, Kelley & Ryan Associates, Inc. for additional fees and charges.  If the bill is not paid, the Deputy Collector must  submit the information of the delinquent party  to the Registry of Motor Vehicles for non-renewal of license and registration with an additional fee.

The assessment is based on a $25.00 per $1,000 dollar valuation.

Anyone who has received a bill for vehicles that they have sold, traded or junked should apply with their bills, plate cancellation receipt and whom the vehicle was sold, traded or given to as well as their new registration to the Board of Assessors. Also taxpayers who have moved out of state will need Massachusetts plate cancellation receipt and a copy of their out of state registration in order to apply to the Board of Assessors for an adjustment.
