Mission of the Charter Review Study Committee
The Charter Review Study Committee will fully examine the Charter of the City of Pittsfield to determine whether any changes to the present structure of government should be recommended to the citizens of Pittsfield. All proposed changes agreed upon by the Charter Committee shall be brought forward to the City as recommendations. These recommendations must be approved by the Mayor and the City Council and voted on by the citizens for approval at a municipal or state election, and forwarded to the State legislature for adoption. Any changes to the charter approved by the voters and ratified by the State legislature shall take place in the term following its adoption, unless the changes to the Charter would alter the terms or duties of the Mayor, City Council or School Committee, in which case the changes would take effect at the end of said term, following said election.
