As the city continues to work on the revitalization of the downtown, it recognizes that public and private development plans must be supported by a functional and financially sustainable parking policy that will help support downtown’s long term success.
In October 2013, The City of Pittsfield began the process of creating a parking management plan for downtown Pittsfield. To help guide the process, the city hired the consulting firm of Nelson Nygaard and formed a Downtown Parking Study Committee (click here for list of committee members).
The goals of the study were to:
- create a financially sustainable parking plan that addresses the long term maintenance of our public parking facilities
- improve the convenience of parking downtown
- evaluate the overall parking management structure
- address concerns of wayfinding and directional signage
After many public meetings and informational sessions, an online survey, and stakeholder meetings/interviews, the city's consultant is finalizing the Downtown Parking Plan.
The Final Downtown Parking Plan was released on September 30, 2014 and can be accessed through the link below.
