Expansion of Pittsfield Paintbox Program Announced

Pittsfield Artscape will once again be partnering with Berkshire Money Management to bring more public art to the downtown with the Pittsfield Paintbox Project.

The Pittsfield Paintbox Program will continue to bring intriguing and vibrant paintings to the streets' utility boxes (load centers).  Artists will transform the typically drab electrical boxes, increasing the vibrancy of the artful streetscape. It will celebrate local artists, enliven the streetscape, and discourage vandalism of utility boxes throughout the downtown.

In its inaugural year, Artscape installed eight designs from the Berkshire Museum to Persip Park. This year, designs will complete the downtown corridor, installing eight additional Paintboxes down North Street to Berkshire Health Systems.

Further support is provided by the Pittsfield Cultural Council, the City of Pittsfield Office of Cultural Development, and Downtown Pittsfield, Inc.

Artscape is a volunteer-led committee which sponsors, plans, and oversees an annual juried exhibition of public art in the City of Pittsfield. The mission of Artscape is to enhance the overall character of the City’s downtown and attract visitors there by installing and promoting works of art in various accessible outdoor locations throughout Pittsfield’s Upstreet Cultural District.

The outdoor sculptures are by well-known, accomplished artists, and each is unique in its own way. The Artscape walking tour is an outdoor gallery that changes with each year. Come experience the City of Pittsfield through the artists and their works.

Artscape was also a lead organizer of the 2004 Sheeptacular public art project, as well as the 2006-2007 Art Of The Game public art project.  Art Of The Game brought art and baseball together in unexpected ways.
