City of Pittsfield Health Department

Mission Statement
The mission of the Pittsfield Health Department, under the guidance of the Board of Health, is to promote, protect and sustain environmental and public health and further enhance health and safeguard the environment by assessing community needs and to provide prevention, protection, and educational resources to ensure the highest quality of life within the City of Pittsfield.

Our Goal
The Pittsfield Health Department's goals are to improve the quality of life by encouraging healthy behaviors; promote wellness; to educate, monitor, and to protect healthy environments in homes, schools, and workplaces.

Professional Services
The Pittsfield Health Department under state statute is responsible for licensing and inspecting businesses that provide services to the public that include, but not limited to:

¤ Public Nuisances
¤ Recreational Camps for Children
¤ Campgrounds, Mobile Home Parks, Hotels, & Motels
¤ Facilities Selling Tobacco Products
¤ Public & Semi-Public Swimming Pools
¤ Tanning Facilities
¤ Housing Inspections for Compliance
¤ Body Art Technicians & Facilities
¤ Witnessing Title 5 Inspections
¤ Soil Evaluations
¤ Plan Reviews for Septic Systems, Subdivisions, and Well Construction
¤ Bacteriological Environmental & Municipal Water Sampling
¤ Licensing Funeral Directors
¤ Investigation of Foodborne & Waterborne Illnesses

PUBLIC RECORDS
All housing, community sanitation, food establishments, and environmental investigation inspections and results, with the exception of medical and personnel records are all a matter of public record. Please make an appointment and/or contact the Health Department for an appointment for viewing.
