Department of Community Development (DCD)

The Department of Community Development focuses on planning for future development, housing, neighborhood development and economic development. The following pages are designed to inform you of the many ways DCD can assist you, whether you are growing a business, developing land, providing human services, or repairing your home.
Our Mission The mission of the Department of Community Development is to enhance the viability of the community as a desirable place in which to live and work through sound urban planning practices; housing, human services and economic development activities that will primarily benefit persons of low and moderate income; and by eliminating conditions of slum and blight.
Our Responsibilities The Department of Community Development is responsible for community and economic development and planning and housing activities for the City of Pittsfield. We administer the City's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
