The Buildings & Grounds Maintenance Department is comprised of a skilled work force that is dedicated to repairing and maintaining the city’s 126 Municipal buildings and structures of which 3 include the maintenance and management of the Columbus Parking Deck, the Mckay Parking Garage, the Mckay walkway plus the 14 School buildings and grounds. We are also responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of 36 Park and Conservation properties in addition to the 14 School properties. Located within these properties we also maintain 28 playgrounds, 24 basketball courts, 3 tennis courts, 1 ski tow, 5 running tracks, 2 cross country tracks, 39 baseball/softball fields, 1 Rugby field and 17 combination football/soccer/lacrosse fields.
The work force consists of a Director, Assistant Director, LEA/Environmental Compliance Coordinator, two Superintendents, administrative clerks, plumbers, electricians, carpenters, painters, boiler repair craftsman, HVAC craftsmen, Parking Control Officers (PCO’s), municipal custodians, park maintenance men, park maintenance craftsmen and an MEO-2. Our mission is to repair and maintain the infrastructure of the buildings & grounds and to maintain and improve the Indoor Air Quality of our occupied buildings. In addition to our Preventive Maintenance obligations, we also respond to numerous emergency situations in a timely fashion and continue to coordinate with the school department to meet their unique needs. We are responsible for arranging and booking of all public buildings, Controy Pavilion, Wahconah Park and School building rentals. Our facilities are rented by many social, civic and non-profit organizations throughout the year. In addition, the City’s two Parking Control Officers are responsible for parking enforcement throughout the City and report to and take all direction from the Parking Superintendent.

Please refer to the rental packets listed to the right of this page for your review of the fees and regulations to rent any of our City's Facilities or Properties.
