3rd THURSDAYS ROLLS INTO TOWN!
This Thursday, August 19th is the fourth 3rd Thursdays of 2010 and the theme this month is Third Thursday on Wheels! There will be tons of great live music, art openings and receptions – so get ready to get your art on. North Street will once again be closed from Park Square to Maplewood & Linden Streets so you can enjoy all the great art, food, music, and more that Pittsfield has to offer!

CRITERIUM PRO-AM BIKE RACE RETURNS!
The city’s wheeling in tons of great events during this month’s Third Thursday. Between 6:30 – 7:30 at the Central Block, Pittsfield’s Downtown Criterium Pro-Am Bike Race returns for a fast-paced race to the finish line. And at Palace Park, between Fenn & Eagle streets check out the skateboard and BMX demos organized by The Garden! Stop by and get a free helmet from Greylock Federal Credit Union!

MUSIC & DANCING IN THE STREETS
Enjoy great live music and performers at this month’s 3rd Thursday, indoors & outdoors from North to South Street. There’s a multitude of performances at St. Joseph’s lawn – from the T-Bone Daddy blues trio with special guest Gina Coleman and a kung-fu demonstration by Temple 33 1/3, to the steppin’ beats of Youth Alive. Persip Park will host the Berkshire Bateria & Bossa Triba from 6pm – 8pm. The Colonial Theatre hosts the Berkshire Music School Klezmer Ensemble and Cabaret to Go with BMS faculty Sherri James Buxton and Bob Shepherd. At the Crowne Plaza, the Floyd Patterson Band, voted best party band by the Valley Advocate, takes the stage, playing old school R&B and soul throughout the night until 10pm!

MAGGIE MAILER, MARGE BRIDE, PITTSFIELD CONTEMPORARY & MORE
Don’t forget to check out all the great local art Pittsfield has to offer! Mark Shapiro’s solo ceramics show and Maggie Mailer’s solo show of new paintings are still on display at Ferrin Gallery on 437 North Street. Art on No features their monthly open studios along with an exhibition in their gallery at 311 North Street. At the Intermodal BCC Gallery catch the artist reception for Mercy, by BCC alum Janna Essig. There's no place artier than Berkshire Museum, with exhibitions featuring the work of Nancy Graves, Ven Voisey, Joe Wheaton, and Susan Rodgers, The Berkshire Museum has extended hours every 3rd Thursday, with free admission for members and Berkshire County residents. Pittsfield Contemporary on 305 North Street is finally open – stop by and check out the interesting pieces made by artists from across the nation, as well as the Berkshires. All the artwork is on sale – reasonably priced between $15 and $75.

MUMMIES & CARTOONS & BABY ANIMALS & DRUM CIRCLES, OH MY!
Family-friendly activites abound at the August 3rd.Thursdays! This month, Berkshire Bank is teaming up with Storefront Artist Project for cartoons, comics, and prizes! Artists Joe Staton, Scott Hanna and Mark Martin, the artist featured in SAP's current exhibit Comic and Cartoon Art Comes Alive: The Art of Mark Martin, will be underneath the Berkshire Bank tents on North and Columbus Streets to meet, talk, sign autographs and draw for the public. Signed sketches, posters, comic books and other items will be available with donations. Wrapped! Search for the Essential Mummy is on view at the Berkshire Museum, and Henry the baby sheep, Jenny the calf, two baby ducks and some chickens will be visiting at Park Square, thanks to the wonderful kids from the Berkshire County 4-H Youth Fair celebrating its 70th anniversary this Saturday, August 21st! All ages can also join in with Otha Day's community drum circle in Park Square.

DINE AROUND TOWN
As always, there’s tons of great food to enjoy all along North Street. Lantern will serve up great hamburgers and fresh squeezed lemon and limeade as you enjoy all the action of Third Thursday from inside the restaurant, or out. Mission Bar + Tapas will be serving up their Spanish wines, craft ales, and tapas. The Market is now selling beer and wine, and during Third Thursday, stop by and get a free sample of their delicious prepared foods and sweet treats. For a taste of the best carrot cake in the Berkshires, stop by Mary’s Carrot Cake Café on 21 Union Street. If you’re in the mood to see locals stars shine – hop inside The Press Box for open mic night. For a taste of Pan-Asian and New American cuisine, get a table at Jae’s Spice. Plus other great choices throughout downtown Pittsfield!

THE FUN CONTINUES AFTER 8: FILM & THEATRE
The season continues at Barrington Stage Company with Absurd Person Singular playing at Barrington Stage at 8pm while The Memory Show goes on at 7:30pm at Stage 2. Absurd Person Singular follows three couples whose fortunes and misfortunes on Christmas spin out of control, leading to a darkly hilarious ending. The Memory Show is a world premiere from Barrington Stage Company’s Musical Theatre Lab. Funny, charming and heartwarming, The Memory Show is a two-person comic tragedy about the complicated relationship between a woman who has just been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and her estranged daughter who moves back home to Brighton Beach to care for her.
As always, The Beacon Cinema offers matinee prices for all showings at 8pm or later where you can enjoy a fine film, some wine or beer and comfy seats! And above the Beacon Cinema, at NEW STAGE, enjoy a night of Cabaret Magic with Carl Seiger. Thursday is also the last chance to catch the poignantly hilarious film Cyrus at the Little Cinema, playing at 8pm. Little Cinema tickets are just $8 ($6 for members).

MORE FUN AFTER 8pm: DANCING & LIVE MUSIC
Then at 10pm put on your dancing shoes and travel to the Underground Pub for DJ BFG and DJ Jerrid Coty, spinning great dance music all night. The party doesn’t stop when the sun goes down – and there’s another great line up this month for 3rd Thursdays’ 8pm and Beyond. For free musical entertainment, head down to Patrick’s Pub where Rakish Paddy begins playing traditional Celtic music at 8; or head up to Mission Bar + Tapas for Billy Keane and the Misdemeanor Outlaws also at 8pm. Over at Flavours Malaysian Restaurant, see and hear BOB for a suggested donation of $3 at 8pm.
