Accounting

The Accounting office processes payments for the City of Pittsfield and the School Department. The City Accountant is responsible for auditing and reconciliation of books and accounts, approval and payment of bills, auditing of cash balances of all departments and preparation of required financial reports for the City and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The City Accountant monitors the budget and notifies department heads if expenditures exceed appropriations. The Accountant provides monthly written statements to the Mayor, Treasurer, department supervisors and the City Council that show appropriations, expenditures and unexpended balances. The Accountant accounts for the receipt and disbursement of all cash transactions. The City Accountant prepares the City of Pittsfield's annual report, which includes a balance sheet, budget analysis, cash flow statement, debt schedule, accounts receivable reconciliation and other miscellaneous schedules.
