Home : About Pittsfield : Green Commission
Established in 2008, the Pittsfield Green Commission is charged with:
• Investigating means to increase the overall use efficiency in the City, to decrease the use of energy from nonrenewable sources, and to encourage the use of energy from renewable sources.
• Assessing current energy use levels and projecting future energy use levels in Pittsfield in the areas of industry, commerce, institutions, residential dwellings, transportation and municipal buildings, for the purpose of identifying opportunities to encourage and or provide incentives.
• Evaluating current land use policies for their effectiveness in promoting energy conservation and stimulating the use of alternative forms of energy, being attentive to the relationship between transportation and land use, built areas and open space, as well as to the configuration of buildings and street plantings.
• Drafting, for consideration by the City Council, ordinances, rules, regulations, policies and programs necessary for the implementation of the Commission’s recommendations
In May 2010 The City of Pittsfield was one of 35 Massachusetts Cities and Towns to be named a Green Community.
